WELCOMING THE NEW MAJORITY
The need for diversity, equity and inclusion is exemplified by understanding how demographics (and employees and customers) will shift over the next 10, 20 and 30 years or more.
In 2020, whites accounted for 59.7% of the U.S. population; minorities 40.3%. In less than 25 years (by 2045), the proportion of whites will fall under 50% (to 49.7%) for the first time -- thus, becoming the new “minority,” while minorities will then be in the majority, representing 50.3% of the population.
