Should Your Business Use Instagram?

If you haven’t already caught on, we’re big Instagram people.

From food to fashion to magic carpet cleaner…it’s all on Instagram and we are here for it! And, while we understand that our personal love for the IG may not be enough to convince you to get on board (but really, if you’re not are you actually living under a rock?!), maybe some statistics will do it for you.

Famemass recently published a fabulous infographic with the latest and greatest in Instagram numbers. You can check out the full infographic here, but we want to focus on a few stats.

First and foremost, the usage of Instagram is crazy! One billion actively monthly users and 500 million daily active users. Read that again. ONE BILLION! That is no mistake, the people really do love the Gram. While you may not (personally) be interested in using the platform, don’t take it out on your business too. Your brand deserves the chance to potentially be seen by the billions and the photo sharing platform is literally being handed to you on a silver platter. Take the bait!

If the discoverability factor wasn’t enough to sway you, let’s talk about the fact that currently 71% U.S. businesses use Instagram. If it’s good enough for a large chunk of the country, it should be good enough for you. However, we know some of you don’t want to “follow the pack” and we can respect that, so we’re going to drop some more knowledge on ya.

About 80% of users follow a business account, 83% discover new products or services on Instagram and 80% use Instagram when deciding to make a purchase. Let’s all take a brief pause while you pick your brain up off the floor because if that didn’t just make your head explode then we’re not really sure what will.

Your business, your brand, your product, your livelihood could and should be taking advantage of those ~80 percenters that will either

  • 1. Follow your brand

  • 2. Find your product or

  • 3. Buy what you’re selling!

We have nothing further on this one. Like, come on!

The last point that we’d like to focus on is the 2 million advertisers who use Instagram. As we said earlier in this post, if it’s good enough for them, it’s probably good enough for you. Not only are businesses actively using Instagram, they are spending advertising dollars on the platform. Creating and maintaining an account - free. The potential discoverability - free.

The opportunity to connect with your audience - figgin’ free!

So when, at the end of the day, a social media platform is providing FREE marketing, how and why you would say no is a thought beyond our reach.

Oh, and PS, over 200 million users visit at least one business profile a day, so there’s that.
