Poll time! When’s the last time you watched something on YouTube? Our money’s on less than an hour ago. We use Youtube for DIYs, game reviews, and even to catch up on last night’s episode of ‘90 Day Fiance: The Other Way’, or maybe that’s just me? *Scratches my head*
Now how about a pop quiz. When’s the last time you watched something on Twitch? If you’re not a gamer, you probably don’t know much about Twitch, but if your company buys advertising then you should be paying attention.
Twitch and Youtube are both video content platforms. However Twitch is centered around streaming live gameplay. The big difference is that on Twitch, the viewers control when and where the ads appear. Never again will you be randomly caught up in yet another advertisement. So for advertisers the question becomes, what’s my best move? Do I live on Twitch or Youtube?
On the one hand, YouTube has the eyes of 1.8 billion people! On the other, the 140 million people logging in on Twitch have much higher engagement ratings, especially during the game season. The real answer: know your audience. Who are they? Where are they spending their time? Why?
Advertisers can’t write off either platform as good or bad because their audience base will be different from one to the other. At the end of the day, it’s truly about what kind of market you want to advertise in! If you can find a way into Twitch, use it! Captivate all the markets! The world is your oyster!
